Joss Whedon: I thought it was interesting. I had the opportunity to be an actor and I’ve loved doing it, so that part of my life has been really wonderful. I think that when we see females and females in front of the camera — and particularly, when it’s a female in front of the camera, because the people that look up to us are the people that we look up to and are like us. So you want to make sure that we’re in front of the camera, whether it’s in front of your dad — or your mom.
I think that being in a film is a great opportunity to get a glimpse of what it would be like if we didn’t look like our moms, or our heroes. It’s cool that there are women in this industry. That’s something that I’m really proud of and I’m proud of the fact that this opportunity is now out there.

The Kurs M-27, made by launch company Russian Space Systems, was launched earlier today from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with a planned journey that will take the spacecraft to Mars in a few weeks.
The unmanned payload is the first of three planned international missions in cooperation with the U.S. and Japan.
The M-27 spacecraft arrived at Earth’s vicinity and landed Sunday afternoon in Kazakhstan. As soon as the vehicle landed, a loud whistle sounded from the spacecraft and it made its way to Kurs and was ready for the launch preparations.
After launch the first stage of the booster took off and the second stage lifted off just 20 minutes after the spacecraft was released. The first stage then fired for over three minutes to separate the spacecraft and bring the first stage to a stop in the airlock.
