Most filmmakers today don’t have college degrees. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There are thousands of great filmmakers today whose films have gone on to be recognized by many of the greatest films of all time.
It gets even better when you look at the fact that for most of them the experience didn’t even begin with attending a day of film school. The filmmakers of today, for the most part are self-taught. Their careers aren’t about honing a skill or learning a craft but instead, they take what they learn and make it their own.
The key to being able to become a great filmmaker is to be a natural.
Being a natural in filmmaking and filmmaking education is what I strive to focus on on this website.
So why college? Why should I go to college if I want to start?
It is the most obvious answer and is one that I believe in. Colleges are a great way to get into those positions that don’t have the opportunity of a real job in the entertainment industry. If I could find something close to what I want, the time would be more valuable and I would have less incentive to work so hard every single day to get it.
Many of my friends are able to complete their film education right out of college because they can do what they want because they have been exposed to the film industry so thoroughly that they are very comfortable and comfortable with the idea so to speak. They aren’t like me who couldn’t even get my foot in the door in college.
I hope that I explain why and where a college experience has had some major benefits for my life. I don’t necessarily think that college is a bad thing but rather, it is something that I need to consider when making a film career decision.
