In this short film we show you how the whole process of filming, editing and post editing can be done for a small budget.
You will first need to register your film with your local Film & TV Licensing Board. Then you will need to create a production budget and budgeted days of shooting or editing. You will learn more about pre production and final shooting after your film is made.
A film can be released to theatres at any age. The same goes for TV channels.
The film you’ve just made can also be released for television, or you can make a short film based on your own story.
What’s the process of production?
The time spent taking on and filming your film will be spent researching locations, locations preparation, location hire, crew, sound equipment, lighting, post-production, post production editing and sound mixing. The time can be spent at home in your living room, on the phone or online, but the big budget films are usually shot in a facility like a location house or sound studio.
You need to learn that it’s not all about a set, but about the people who work in the place. You will also learn that the film itself is the first step, and that your next steps are set-up and story-telling.
Once you have been in the business a while you will know about how to work the system and to understand the market. You already have your own contacts to ask and there will be a network to keep in touch with in your early days.
How do I find film schools and locations?
You’ll be lucky to get into any film school, so you’ve really got to think about what your major is and what film courses and courses you’re interested in.
There are good opportunities for those looking to get a job in a local and medium level film production facility, most of them offer work through on-line or telephone courses. You will get to see what film schools and locations are like at different stages, you’ll know if there are any films that might interest you and you can contact them directly to find out more.
After you’ve had a taste as a student, and you think you have what it takes to make a fine film, you might be invited down to a location shoot to be part of the production. You will need to be willing to travel abroad as this will give you an idea what is involved and the scope of production.
