For beginners and even more advanced players, you might get the impression that only one instrument should be used during the entire session – maybe with a few breaks to allow your hands to recover after a workout or a long trip.
But what if you just want to stay in constant contact with what you’re playing or what you’re studying?
And while playing one guitar during each practice session can be easy to manage, there are a lot of other ways to have a great guitar playing.
Let’s look at a few options.
1. Spend the entire session performing guitar exercises
The first option, of course, is to spend the entire session practicing.
By doing so, you spend no time in the studio, and you don’t even have to make an effort to get up from the couch at least a few times during your sessions.
It can even be convenient for some of the guitarists. If you’re in a busy studio with a limited number of practice spots and only a few hours each day, you can try playing only a couple of hours with the same instrument for an entire day without feeling like you are losing any time.
A good practice session can be an important part of your learning career, so just stick to practicing with each of your main guitar instruments as much as you can.
You may do so several times per week or a few times per month. You could also pick a few songs to practice, and play them in the same session.
You should also pick a practice time during the week. While you can practice in the studio and listen to guitar lessons, some players like to play a lot, so they only do one practice session per week.
The best way for you to work out in the studio is going to your studio (or even a friend’s or relative’s studio), playing from your favorite song by playing along with it. By playing along, we mean practicing the same part of the song you did in the last practice session.
By practicing from the same song over and over again, you can begin finding ways to make the changes during the song easier and avoid having to play on stage too often.
If you prefer to find those “hidden” songs you can make an effort to practice from them too.
Playing from your favorite song is a great time to explore what you like about it and how different people respond to it.
