No, I couldn’t learn by myself, so I had to go out and find teachers and I had someone who taught guitar to Steve Vai. We were also at The Strand until he left the band in 2000 and I had to take over everything. In addition to teaching, I’m also doing a book club – I teach for people who want to play guitar, and the first time my class was so massive, it sold out. Even if I do teach it, it’s still really fun to teach and I get to meet a lot of people who love what we do. There are a number of people I know have contacted me through email telling me they’ve always wanted to be guitarists, but weren’t ready to give up.
Are you a very good teacher?
I really do think I’m a great teacher because I’ve never had to teach anyone because I was so good at what I did. There’s not a lot of people out there that can say that when they take up guitar that they’re a guitar teacher or not. But I’ll learn to teach just the best I can, I’ll learn to do a lot of things – I’m always working to better myself and better my students. I’ve learned that a lot of times things are learned the hard way, and that we just need to have a lot of compassion for everyone. So, I’m really happy to be able to share the passion that I hold for all things music and hopefully help any aspiring musicians out there.
Any final thoughts?
To be honest, it’s easy to say you’ve never met a great musician or guitar player and that’s not the case. They’re all so great. But we’ve had a good time. I think I’m the best guitar teacher in the world, and hopefully you’ll start to meet some cool people in this world, as well.
The United States Supreme Court today heard oral arguments in the case of A.G., Inc., Inc. v. FTC, No. 11-1396, which challenges the FCC’s authority to create a new media standard called “Advertising and Marketing Standards.” The case is a challenge to a federal rule called Broadcast Act Rules 2.15 and 2.18 that set the framework for the TV advertising industry, including the “must offer to any person willing to pay such price for the broadcast station’s broadcast advertising whether or not such person will watch it or hear of it.” The FCC adopted the rules in the early 1990s
