In my opinion, you can shoot up to the 6th or 7th day as long as you can shoot well, don’t be afraid to try. If you have very little time and you get stuck, I’ve seen first hand how very frustrating you guys can get.
So if you want to be fast, shoot it as fast as possible on day two. If you don’t have that much time, shoot it until Monday. If you’re on a time crunch, don’t make your video. But again, this is the point where you can change a lot! You’ll get more edits. You’ll have more time in between edits, which is awesome and would be great if I were to show you!
The Video
I usually shoot video on my phone. But I think you’ll want to use a couple of different devices. But I’d suggest going with an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. A full 5’5′ guy, or 5 foot 8, would do great in a 6+ or 6+ Plus.
The video was also shot with an iPhone 6 Plus. I think that it can be a real distraction if you’re shooting more than 1-2 people at a time. The camera is a real nuisance so you might want to try something else where you can get away with it.
I personally used a Canon Rebel T4i as my phone. I use the phone for everything from uploading to email or social media. But I’ve also used my phone to edit and shoot short videos of my kid to make them happy and it’s been a very helpful tool. It’s not quite a professional level camera yet, but for the time being, it makes a great tool for quick edits and easy sharing.
I shot my video on a Samsung Series 3 Smartphone, and a Sony Smartphone.
Here’s a shot from the left – right side of the front camera of my phone. It’s a bit noisy though. For that reason, I opted to shoot my video with a Sony Smartphone. I was also told by some other reviewers how important it was to be recording the front camera of the device (the camera in the bottom part). My friend has seen my video before and thought that my shot looked better with the front camera on. And I really like the front camera, because it gives me a little more visibility to my kids. This does create some slight distortion, but for the price, I can live with that.
