I know the Leica M7 with its 24mm f/1.4 Leica Carl Zeiss Lens. I think it does well, but it doesn’t look as good on the full frame sensor. It’s the closest thing to the Leica M that exists, and since it just comes in black it would never catch on with the wider consumer audience since black is the worst color choice for most people.
There’s a $35 entry-level lens, but it’s very different in that it shoots a 25 (in black) or 50 (in red) as opposed to the 28mm (in white). It’s not available for purchase until January or February, and it’s only available in the US.
But then there’s the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with its 24mm f/1.4 lens, which might be cheaper than the Zeiss lens in some areas, but it doesn’t have the same appeal of the lens on the M7, and it’s not available in the US (or will be in the US, sometime before May).
What camera should I get if I want to use Canon equipment? If you don’t want a bunch of cameras that compete and fail on their own, but are just better than what is out there, which has a built-in lens that shoots 4K high dynamic range. But if you like to work in the dark and would just like a camera that fits into your budget, then the Sony Alpha SLT NEX-VG and the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens have the potential to become your most important items.
If you have a Canon EOS DSLR that doesn’t have a native 4K sensor attached, but a very fast 4K cinema lens, then the Canon EF 24mm f/2.5 USM lens with an 80mm f/2.8 lens built-in is a huge improvement over the built-in 35mm f/2.8. While it’s not a super-fast lens, it can take awesome photographs right out of the camera, unlike the 35mm f/2.0 lenses that are used on some EOS DSLRs.
