In this week’s blog post we take a look at one of the most popular online courses for jobseekers to learn. This is called online MBA and for every person who takes this course online there are hundreds more who take it offline and do not even realise that the course has even existed. You may have read a fair bit about online MBA but have you considered whether getting into an online MBA course makes sense for you? Does it cost a fair amount? What happens if you drop out? Are you ready for an experience that is free of charge and that lasts well into the future? Well, we think the answer to each of these questions should give you some insight into whether or not online MBA is something for you. So without any further ado, let’s take a look at why online MBA exists, why it is interesting, why it can help you, and when to take it.
Does online MBA currently exist?
Yes. In 2013, Oded Meerup of Mihai Hoxha’s online MBA School took the time to go through the top 100 MBA courses available on Udemy and made a list of the top 10 in terms of quality and in terms of cost. Meerup found that while over 90% of courses on Udemy were free (excluding credit cards), he found that around 25% of the courses had a monthly subscription fee. That’s why Meerup was shocked to see that students were paying a monthly subscription fee ranging between $30 – $60 at many of the top online courses.
However, that doesn’t tell the whole story, as Meerup is quick to add that many courses that he found to have low prices were actually free. In fact, Meerup found that almost the 100 most popular courses – including courses taught by top professors themselves – were only available to pay members of various platforms like Udemy.
Forget about the fees, the benefits of online MBA
This is where the big benefits of online MBA come into play and is exactly why it is such a popular choice for jobseekers. With a monthly subscription fee of $30 – $60 – the cost of an online MBA course can easily be half this amount. In fact, according to Meerup, if you look at courses cost, you can pick what costs you most and what costs you least. You might decide that you have enough funds in your account for 6 months and just take a course for 2 and a quarter months. This strategy is also good if you
