What pencil is used for sketching? – Pencil Drawing Lessons For Beginners

I’ve used pencil, but that’s not the best kind. I’ve tried watercolor pencil, pastels, colored pencils, crayons, etc.

How do you get your subjects to relax and take the picture?

I use my hands. I have a drawing pad, which I draw on to work from. It makes my job easier since I don’t have to stop and pick up the pencil. I like to think my hands are a creative tool, because they really help make your drawing look natural, and more natural than a pencil or a computer-generated drawing would.

Did you have a specific idea in mind that you wanted to do? What was your goal when you started?

I didn’t necessarily have a goal when I started. I just knew that I like making things. When we’re sketching, we’re just drawing what comes to mind.

Do you feel any pressure to produce and make a picture immediately or do you use this time to refine your drawing? Or do you just keep on drawing and see what you like.

There definitely may be pressure to get images out there as soon as possible. I can’t be as realistic as I want to be with my clients. Sometimes I’ll do a concept sketch just because I think it would be fun and I’ve got some ideas.

With the use of computers, drawing has gotten much more realistic and has become a much more art-directed act of making things. That’s definitely something you want to cultivate.

What are you currently drawing in your studio?

I’m currently putting together a series of pieces. I’m not sure what that will be yet. I’m mostly working on portraits of people, in fact. I’ve got some portraits of actors and actors who are on The Voice.

Some of your works are surreal. One of your most widely-read projects is “Vomit Boy”, which is a series of photographs that feature a young boy sitting on a toilet in a school bathroom. Can you tell us what this series is all about?

“Vomit Boy” is one of several project that I do where I use my imagination. I love surrealism, and I’ve always wanted to make my own project. I’ve spent two decades of my life exploring the boundaries of abstraction. I always liked to think that something else was in my mind that was just as interesting as the image I was trying to make.
