Migraine is now common in the United States of America, and it’s even in Canada. According to a recent survey, at least 8.5 million Americans have reported a migraine and 11.5 million Americans have experienced pain related to their migraines. That means at least 8.5 million Americans are currently experiencing the pain and/or symptoms of migraine headaches. At least 11.5 million Americans are potentially at risk for an attack while they are driving or while using a vehicle. That means that up to 6.8 million adults will be at risk if their headaches keep getting worse.
But this is no ordinary headache, and no amount of over-the-counter pain relievers can save you from the effects of migraine. Because migraine is not like heart disease or pneumonia. It is not something that gets better with medication. Instead, it’s something that gets better in stages over time. If you want to get better, you have to make an appointment with your doctor and get the right treatment for you.
Migraine isn’t just a bad headache
To help you understand what triggers the pain of an attack and what treatments are possible for a migraine attack, let’s explore what is the headache.
The migraine pain is actually caused by the brain firing “in a different pattern.” The brain processes information differently when it hears a sound than when it hears a tone or sees a color. These kinds of differences can cause changes in signals in the brain’s sensory organs, and they can interfere with the normal functioning of the body’s organs and systems.
We think about the brain as being a very simple machine, but the brain actually is quite the complexity. It’s made up of hundreds of “nodes.” There are different types of nodes in the brain, but two are particularly known, “hundred-million-node” and “one-billion-node.” Think of them as islands. It happens that two hundred million distinct nodes are actually in communication with each other, which leads to the appearance of the headache.
A thousand million neurons in a single neuron
The brain has a certain amount of space inside of it. A hundred million neurons
