I think that the dance has become a way of life in the U.S.
Is your dancing a form of community?
That’s really the part I like to play: sharing my story, learning from others, and looking to improve myself.
Are there dance styles you enjoy dancing?
I like to dance hip-hop, because I’m a hip-hophead.
I like to dance hip-hop, I like the diversity of styles, but I also try out many styles. It’s a great challenge.
I like to stay healthy. I mean, I dance when I have to be — I’m a professional athlete. I want to keep on being healthy, but I also don’t want to hurt myself. (If I had a problem!) I try my best to balance everything — just don’t tell me when I’re not doing something right.
I’m also into ballet because I’m a dancer. When I’m not performing, I have to make myself think about what’s best, not only for dancing, but for life.
What’s the best thing about dance?
Everyone is doing the same thing. It’s all great.
You’ve heard that ballet has been called the greatest form of dancing on Earth? What’s that definition?
[Laughs] In my book, the word ‘beautiful’ doesn’t even come close to describing it. There is no such thing as ‘beautiful dance’ — you have to be inspired to dance.
Who do you admire and admire most right now?
I look at the people I admire most from all four corners: my mother, me, family, and friends.
