While it has been suggested that there are other reasons for the decline in the number of women in professional sports, one thing becomes clear. Men play an increasingly significant role in the production of sporting successes. The BBC has a lot of explaining to do.

A woman accused of running a prostitution ring from her North Carolina home was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of three women in the state last year.
Kristen Lynn Pugh — a former beauty queen and beauty therapist at a beauty parlor — faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder, according to records obtained Thursday by WSOC-TV.
Pugh, 38, previously faced only one count each of murder and racketeering in connection with the three separate killings of a North Carolina woman, a man and a teenager in December 2015.
An affidavit unsealed by the Brunswick County district attorney’s office says Pugh was arrested Wednesday in the killing of her husband, who died in 2013. The affidavit says he had been found decapitated in the garage of Pugh’s home in Wilmington, about 140 miles away.
Prosecutors say that in December, Pugh was found shot in the back as she waited to be arrested. She was taken to Brunswick County General Hospital, where her injuries were described as “execution style” by the doctor who treated her.
The affidavit says Pugh admitted to “knowingly, intentionally and with premeditation killing all those persons in her care.” She told police she planned the killings to “make money and to have some pleasure.”
No one else had been arrested, so the motive remains unknown.
The killing of the man, who had been out of town during the murders, was the third homicide in Pugh’s family.
Her father, Walter Pugh, was killed in 1981, and at least two of her grandparents were shot and killed in the 50s.
According to police records, after Pugh’s arrest, her grandfather, Walter W. Pugh, said “I have nothing to hide and I will not lie. I am not sorry for what I did or what I have done.”
The father also told police that he had killed a friend who called authorities to report that he had killed her at a party, records show.
