In a recent video, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explained how she would have handled North Korea without China’s help during the early part of the Cold War.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared on Democracy Now! on Saturday to discuss her new book, What Happened. Clinton described how the United States would have responded to an attack from the Soviet Union during the Cold War had Chinese President Mao Zedong not intervened.
Clinton also recounted how she and President Jimmy Carter made a deal to get a cease-fire in Afghanistan, and the two presidents called China’s Communist government and its leaders to discuss negotiating a peace deal that would hold together Russia, China, and the Middle East.
“The point,” explained Clinton, “is that we would’ve been okay if Mao had not intervened.”
The president, Clinton explained, thought an agreement could’ve been achieved that was better than one that was imposed upon Moscow, Beijing, and their Middle Eastern allies by a puppet government in Moscow. She also said China could have given their own help in that scenario.
“Had I known then what I know now about how China has manipulated its neighbors and made enemies out of people around the world, I could’ve kept that conversation with our Chinese partners confidential,” Clinton added. “What happened was that China refused to be a partner, [and] when they started working with the Soviets, so did their neighbors.”

The official website for Natsume Yuujinchou , the sequel to the original Natsume Yuujinchō ( The Tatami Galaxy ) anime television anime series, announced on Friday that the anime’s April 15 TV premiere will be at 4:30 p.m. (effectively 5:30 p.m. ET).
The anime has more than 1.8 million fans on Facebook, and there’s no word yet on which cast members from the original series will return as voice actresses.
The series premiered in Japan in January 2014.
